Mass at Heavy Metal Hammer Show, Scheffelhalle, Singen, South-Germany - 22nd December 1984.
The first time I heard from Mass was during my early headbanger years at one concert in a local youth centre. Some guys, wearing Mass buttons, had visited their gig somewhere in the Netherlands and told us about it. But remember… those were the days without social media and word to mouth at concerts & record stores was the channel of news sharing. The golden era of the Metal underground. Mass, coming from Regensburg (Germany), started in the early 70’s as an Progressive Blues-rock bank and played in their prime time all over Europe. But slightly changed their style into a more Hard Rock based musical direction. On the brink of the 80’s the move to Heavy Metal was a fact and the band gained more and more popularity in Germany and abroad. Which was clearly noticeable, besides of playing at this festival the band had also an other gig scheduled elsewhere and to gain travelling time they gladly swapped positions with Dutch metal legends Martyr (see post at Dutch Treat section). Due to circumstances, Mass disappeared from the radar in 1987, but returned into the spotlight since January 2017. The band is now stronger than ever….go check them out!!!
