Lee Aaron at Paradiso, Amsterdam, The Netherlands - 24th of November 1985.
Lee Aaron visited our country for the second time within a year. This time not as a support act but as headliner during the whole entire European tour. All this in support of the recently released album “Call of the Wild”. A few hours before her performance in Paradiso, Lee gave a press conference at the Euromotel in Amsterdam. And it soon became clear that this lady's career was on the rise. There was an open talk about the necessity of having video clips as an artist. But also that Lee might soon make the switch to a major label. This extremely charming lady clearly had things well organized, also in terms of stage and show. Partly due to her appearance and presentation, the audience was immediately on her side. The highlight of the show was the ballad "Barely Holdin' On" with Lee in optima forma. My return journey to my former hometown of Zutphen was a total different story. Because Lee Aaron started so late I couldn't catch the last train home because of the extreme snowfall. Due to this trains were cancelled, so I decided to catch the last train to Deventer and walk home in the snow from there. Once there I started my long journey. Packed and bagged in dark looking winter clothing and a backpack full of photo equipment I made my way through the snow. Suddenly the strong arm of the law appeared and stopped me. A burglar had been spotted in the area I was in, and believe it or not, he fitted my description. Also, a footprint of a shoe had been found in one of the buildings, so the police began their interrogation, meanwhile also checking my shoe soles and the content of my backpack. Fortunately I was able to prove that I was at a concert of Lee Aaron in Amsterdam. And let's face it, there was no better and nicer alibi than that. The gentlemen of the police were touched by my story and decided to give me a lift to the nearest village. From where I continued my journey and came home late at night, but all's well that ends well.
