Sword at Earthquake Festival 1985, De Kegelaar, Kaatsheuvel, The Netherlands, 23rd of March 1985
Sword is a Dutch heavy/speed metal band from Haarlem, originally formed in 1982. In that same year, guitarist Henk Bakker, together with bassist Erik Meyer, turned out a complete Beethoven symphony wrapped in a hard rock jacket. It certainly created a lot of commotion on the Metal scene. After the single, I’ve Been Trying/Excalibur in 1984, and a few line-up changes, the rhythm section from 1985 consisted of drummer Henk Mulder and bassist Wim Smits. Sword was programmed as the opening act for this festival, and of course due to the traffic, the time of our arrival was closer to the end of their set. Later in 1986 the group name was changed to Jewel, which speaks volumes amongst many Dutch Metal fans.
