David Lee Roth at Monsters of Rock, Koning Willem II Stadion, Tilburg, The Netherlands - 4th of September 1988
The “Skyscraper” Tour from former van Halen frontman David Lee Roth finally arrived on Dutch soil. It was Roth’s first solo tour on the European continent. Due to his arrival, both media and the public were curious and excited at the same time. His latest release “Skyscraper” was well received over here, but soon after its release, bass player Billy Sheehan, had left the group and was replaced for the album’s support tour by drummer, Gregg Bissonette’s brother Matt. Keyboard player Brett Tuggle was also part of Roth’s band. But most of the attention was going out to axeman Steve Vai, whose specially designed heart shaped guitar drew admiring glances. Getting in the photo booth was a different story. The band started to play while a few press formalities were finished. And because of the three-song rule, we were all in a hurry. Roth’s manager pulled me towards the direction of the front stage, and on my way, I almost run over Maidens drummer Nicko McBrain. Sorry pal, I’m in a rush, got to get this shoot done and time is precious.
