Malice at Jaap Edenhal, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 3rd of May 1987.
The American heavy metal band Malice from Los Angeles was formed in 1981. After the release of two tracks, "Captive of Light" and "Kick You Down", on the famous & legendary Metal Massacre 1 on Metal Blade records, everything started to accelerate for them. The band gained their notoriety from their live gigs and got a reputation which drew the attention of Atlantic Records, who went on to sign the band. Their second album “License to Kill” had to be promoted and Malice became the support act for Slayer on their 1987 "Reign in Pain" European tour. It did not work out very well for them, and the band faced a barrage of hostility from the audience every night. Maybe it was just the wrong place at the wrong time, and considering the current metal scene, unfortunately forced the band to leave the tour in Germany. Maybe it was just a matter of taste? Or was it the new set of boundaries between hair-, heavy-, speed- and thrash metal? I don’t know!!! But anyhow you look at it, Malice did not deserve to be treated like this. Nowadays a bill with this diverse mix of genres would be more appreciated and well received. And Malice’s career might have turned out differently….
